LCA Studio Legale for Emergent to Matteo Cantarella (Copenhagen) and Shahin Zarinbal (Berlin)
Milan, 5 April 2025. miart 2025, the international modern and contemporary art fair organised by Fiera Milano, announces the winners of the best booth prizes: LCA Studio Legale Prize for Emergent and Herno Prize.
Each of these awards – along with the Fondazione Fiera Milano Acquisition Fund and the acquisition and commission prizes, such as the Orbital Cultura – Nexi Group Award, Matteo Visconti di Modrone Prize, SZ Sugar miart Commission and Massimo Giorgetti Prize – highlights the generous collaboration of each Partner in actively supporting art and culture. Their commitment reinforces miart’s mission to promote and sustain the dedication and vision of the galleries and artists participating in the fair.
The tenth edition of the Herno Prize for the best installation goes to LC Queisser (Tbilisi) within the Established section.
The prize worth €10,000 was awarded to the stand with the best exhibition project by the international jury consisting of Goedele Bartholomeeusen, Director, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Sint-Martens Latem (Belgium), Sarah Cosulich, Director, Pinacoteca Agnelli, Turin (Italy) and Anthony Huberman, Artistic Director, Giorno Poetry Systems (GPS), New York (USA).
The jury explains: “we awarded LC Quisser for the precision of their presentation which highlights three strong positions and approaches in active dialogue. Body, architecture and transformation emerge in the space of the booth becoming a powerful artistic statement and a visual as well physical experience. The significance of the work carried out by LC Quisser extends to the wide implications of an approach which combines deep research into the complexities of their geographical context, active contribution to the international artistic context and political resistance”.
The LCA Studio Legale Prize for Emergent worth €4,000, established in 2015 by the collaboration between miart and LCA Studio Legale and destined for the gallery with the best presentation within the Emergent section, was awarded to the shared project by Matteo Cantarella (Copenhagen) and Shahin Zarinbal (Berlin).
The international jury consisting of Carina Bukuts, Co-curator, Portikus, Frankfurt (Germany), Fanny Hauser, Director, Kunsthalle Zürich, Zurich (Switzerland) and Nicole Yip, Director, Spike Island, Bristol (United Kingdom) explains: “we are delighted to award the prize to Matteo Cantarella and Shahin Zarinbal for their first appearance at the fair with works by Sanna Helena Berger and Cecilie Norgaard. In their joint presentation, the galleries have not only brought together compelling works by two emerging artists, but also put the collaborative nature of their individual practices on the forefront to produce a presentation that is not commercially driven but most importantly artist-centered. The jury was particularly impressed by the formal and conceptual rigour of the installation, which belies the simplicity of its presentation”.
