Milan, 4 April 2025. miart 2025, the international modern and contemporary art fair organised by Fiera Milano, announces the winners of the acquisition and commission prizes: Orbital Cultura – Nexi Group Award, Matteo Visconti di Modrone Prize, SZ Sugar   miart   Commission   and   Massimo   Giorgetti   Prize. Each of these awards – along with the Fondazione Fiera Milano Acquisition Fund and the best booth prizes, such as the Herno Prize and the LCA Studio Legale Prize for Emergent – highlights the generous collaboration of each Partner in actively supporting art and culture. Their commitment reinforces miart’s mission to promote and sustain the dedication and vision of the galleries and artists participating in the fair.

The third edition of Orbital Cultura - Nexi Group Award - the only prize exclusively dedicated to photography with the aim to provide italian historical museums with contemporary and high-quality images – entrusts Linda Fregni Nagler (1976, Stockholm, Sweden) represented by Monica De Cardenas (Milan, Zuoz, Lugano) and VISTAMARE (Pescara, Milan) in Established section to create a photographic documentation work with an award of €10,000.

The jury composed of Ilaria Bonacossa, Director, Palazzo Ducale, Genoa (Italy), Gianfranco Maraniello, Director, Area Museums of Modern and Contemporary Art, City of Milan, Milan (Italy), Francesco Zanot, Photography critic & Curator, Milan (Italy) - Jury President – explains the commission as follows: “Linda Fregni Nagler has distinguished herself with an artistic practice that intertwines memory, visual culture, and storytelling, using photography as a powerful tool to explore the cultural and historical layers of our time. The jury recognizes the exceptional nature of her approach and anticipates the potential for reinterpretation that this practice may offer regarding subjects like the Villa Reale and the PAC in Milan, both deeply connected to the city's history and key players

in its present. The artist's works are characterized by a keen attention to photographic language and the methods of their creation, staging her operation and highlighting the centrality of research and study phases in an era where images risk to become increasingly detached from reality itself, as well as from any process of in-depth analysis. Her unique working method, which combines the roles of scholar, image producer, curator, and collector, fosters a constant reflection on the role of the artist within the contemporary cultural landscape, in full alignment with a commission aimed at revisiting and reimagining the spaces where art is exhibited and narrated to the public”.

At its third edition, the Matteo Visconti di Modrone Prize, in memory of the President of Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, has a value of €10,000 and is assigned to Ruth Beraha (1986, Milan, Italy) at miart with Ncontemporary (Milan, Venice, London) in Established section. The winner will have the possibility to realize his sculpture in Fonderia Artistica Battaglia with the assistance of its artisans. The jury, composed by Cecilia Alemani, Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art, New York (USA), Nikola Dietrich, Director, Liste Art Fair Basel, Basel (Switzerland), Dr. Jelena Trkulja, Senior Advisor for Academic and Cultural Affairs, Qatar Museums, Doha (Qatar) and Bernabò Visconti di Modrone, Founder and CEO of Artshell, President and CEO of Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, Milan (Italy) - Jury President, justifies the choice as follows: “the sculpture proposed by the artist, an upside-down eagle with its head stuck into a pedestal, represents not only the ultimate symbol of power, the eagle, which is subverted, but above all an alternative ‘absent’ dimension—the head of the eagle that is not there but remains latent, raising a series of questions and inquiries about the symbol of monuments and power today, while also forcing us to confront our times. The award will provide the artist with the opportunity to work with bronze for the first time, a material she has not yet explored, and to embark on a journey of experimentation and discovery with the foundry, adding value and unexpected elements to the proposed project”.

The project of Mario Airò (1961, Pavia, Italy) represented by VISTAMARE (Pescara, Milan) in Established section proved to be the most deserving, thus winning the second SZ Sugar miart commission worth €5,000. In collaboration with SZ Sugar, a publishing house dedicated to contemporary classical music, founded in 1907 under the name Edizioni Suvini Zerboni and part of the Sugar Music group led by Caterina Caselli and Filippo Sugar. On the occasion of miart 2025, SZ Sugar provided participating galleries with the opportunity to let their artists interpret "Musica per una fine," a composition by Ennio Morricone for choir, orchestra, and magnetic tape, featuring a recording of a poem by Pier Paolo Pasolini read by the author.

Among the proposals received and evaluated by SZ Sugar with the support of a commission chaired by Michele Bertolino, curator of Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. The final piece, once completed, was presented at the fair in a dedicated space.

Chiara Enzo (1989, Venice, Italy), at miart with ZERO... (Milan) in Established section, is the artist selected for the third edition of the Massimo Giorgetti Prize, which was created with the intention of supporting young artists at the beginning of their careers.

The prize, worth €5,000 and awarded as support for practice and research, was granted by a jury composed of Massimo Giorgetti, Founder and Creative Director, MSGM, Milan (Italy), Edoardo Monti, Founder & Curator, Palazzo Monti, Brescia (Italy) and Gea Politi, Publisher and Chief Editor, Flash Art, Milan (Italy) with the following motivation: “the jury selected the work of Chiara Enzo for her research on complex dynamics between the individual and his or her surroundings. Her work focuses primarily on the often- problematic tensions and interactions between the self and one's vulnerability. The focus of her pictorial research lies in the exploration of particular moments and circumstances that have the power to alter the perception of reality. The artist dwells on emotional states and situations that test the human being, such as moments of fragility, conditions of strong psychological pressure, circumstances of imminent danger or, conversely, moments  of  deep intimate connection. The jury will also be pleased to see the evolution of the artist's work”.
