INFO AND RESERVATUION
The inaugural event of the talks among friends programme will take place on Thursday, 28 November, at 6:30 PM at Pirelli HangarBicocca, which is currently hosting a solo exhibition of Jean Tinguely (open until 2 February 2025).
The event will feature a lecture by Annalisa Rimmaudo, curator of the contemporary art collections at the Centre Georges Pompidou, titled Jean Tinguely: Happenings, Collaborations, Ephemeral Works. It will focus on Tinguely’s production of ephemeral and collaborative works, delving into the most radical aspects of his artistic practice: his ability to forge relationships and connections with other artists, musicians, and intellectuals, challenging the notion of sole authorship; his insistence on questioning the nature and value of the artwork and resisting its museumisation; and his desire to engage the audience as an active participant in the creative process.
During the evening, Homage to New York, a film shot in 1960 by D.A. Pennebaker, will be screened. This film captures the legendary performance of Tinguely's self-destructing artwork, staged in the garden of MoMA in 1960 with the collaboration of fellow artists, including John Cage, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg, whom he met that same year. Tinguely and Rauschenberg formed a long-lasting friendship and collaborated on numerous occasions, such as the collective work Dylaby created for the Stedelijk Museum in 1962. This project, developed with Daniel Spoerri, Niki de Saint Phalle, Per Olof Ultvedt, and Martial Raysse, stands as one of the most significant examples of collaborative artistic practice within an institutional context during that period.

The exhibition METAL PANIC will remain open to the public until 10:30 PM
The second event in the talks among friends series will take place on Thursday, 12 December, at 6:30 PM at PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, currently hosting METAL PANIC, the most extensive and comprehensive exhibition ever dedicated to the work of Marcello Maloberti.
Taking its title from one of Maloberti’s iconic Martellate - L’ARTISTA É LO SPAZIO DELL’INCONTRO - the talk will feature a discussion between Marcello Maloberti himself, Diego Sileo (curator of PAC and the exhibition), and Nicola Ricciardi (Artistic Director of miart).
This gathering offers a unique opportunity to explore how the concept of collaboration - a principle dear to figures like Rauschenberg - also deeply influences Marcello Maloberti’s work from various perspectives. In Maloberti’s artistic journey, the act of coming together and working collaboratively transforms into a generative gesture, where collective action becomes a living artwork. This dynamic interplay generates poetic energy and forges new connections between people, objects, and spaces.
Collaboration often forms the backbone of projects engaging communities, public spaces, and shared creative processes. At the same time, mutual support among institutions fosters a cohesive and synergistic cultural fabric within the city. A prime example is Milan, a city that has supported Maloberti’s artistic practice from its inception and now, through METAL PANIC, receives a heartfelt declaration of love in return.

John Giorno & friends
A conversation with Damiano Gulli, Nicola Ricciardi and Bonnie Whitehouse
The third event in the Talks Among Friends series will take place on Friday, March 14, at 6:00 PM at Triennale Milano, on the occasion of the exhibition John Giorno: A Labour of LOVE. Curated by Nicola Ricciardi with Eleonora Molignani, the exhibition explores the different expressions of friendship, dialogue, and support within the cultural world through materials from the rich archive of the American artist. The talk, titled John Giorno & Friends, will feature Damiano Gulli, Curator for Contemporary Art and Public Programs at Triennale Milano, in conversation with Nicola Ricciardi, Artistic Director of miart and curator of the exhibition, and Bonnie Whitehouse, Archivist and Registrar at Giorno Poetry Systems.
The event will represent an opportunity to discuss how the exhibition – made possible thanks to the support of Fiera Milano and inspired by the curatorial theme of the 29th edition of miart, Among Friends – brings to light the traces of Giorno's countless friendships and collaborations with some of the most significant figures in 20th-century art, literature, and music: William S. Burroughs, John Cage, Allen Ginsberg, Keith Haring, Allan Kaprow, Jasper Johns, Patti Smith, Michael Stipe, as well as the already mentioned Rauschenberg and Warhol, to name just a few.
